About Us
How we started
SCEMS was started in 1975 as part of a National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration (NHTSA) initiative to promote regionalized EMS coordination across the United States.
Who We Are
The South Central Minnesota EMS (SCEMS) Regional System plans and coordinates emergency medical services throughout a 9 county area. This is accomplished by:
1. Providing technical assistance to agencies
2. EMS management consulting
3. Identifying and correcting gaps in the local EMS system
4. Promoting EMS through public information and advocacy
5. Providing low-cost, high-quality training opportunities for rural providers
South Central Minnesota EMS serves Blue Earth, Brown, Faribault, Le Sueur, Martin, Nicollet, Sibley, Waseca, and Watonwan counties in South Central Minnesota. The staff of SCEMS take great pride in being able to serve our responders 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We also take great pride in being able to work with local agencies to provide them with the tools and personnel necessary to make their organization successful.
Funding
SCEMS receives funding through multiple state and federal grants, all designed to promote and support EMS effectiveness, as well as from donations from appreciative community members.
